James (Jim) Langford was a South Bend native, a quintuple Domer (holding 5 degrees from Notre Dame), director of Notre Dame Press for 25 years, and a longtime community leader through programs such as “There Are Children Here,” which provided numerous outdoor activities, reading sessions, theater, snacks and just general fun for thousands of underprivileged children from the South Bend-Elkhart region.
To Stir the Soul was Jim’s final body of work through his publishing company, Corby Books, prior to his death March 3, 2022 at age 84.
In Jim’s words, it’s a book that “… pretty much wrote itself. It draws almost completely on books I have helped publish and, to be honest, re-reading, selecting, and bringing them together has truly stirred my own soul.”
