SOULSTIR announces year 3 of the Lil' Jeannetta Robinson Gifts of Love program in collaboration with Rev. Charles Walton, United Way and the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership

GRANGER, IN, November 30, 2023 - The 2023 Lil’ Jeannetta Robinson Gifts of Love program, honoring the memory of Lil’ Jeannetta Robinson, will take place Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 8:30AM (CST) at Lincoln Avenue School (a member of the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership), located at 1817 W Lincoln Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53215. Lil’ Jeannetta was born and raised in Milwaukee, and was tragically murdered at age 9, along with her mom, Cheryl Robinson, age 25, April 4, 1984. Lil’ Jeannetta’s birthday is December 27th, and at her sixth birthday party she showed compassion for others by giving her gifts to children attending her party after learning they did not receive Christmas gifts. Inspired by her kindness and joy of giving, the 2023 program will provide more than 400 children in grades K3/K4-5th at Lincoln with a Christmas gift along with a free copy of Little Netta’s Gift, a children’s book about Little Netta’s spirit of giving, written by her cousin, Mike Brown.

Lil’ Jeannetta was the niece of Rev. Charles L. Walton, granddaughter of the late Commissioner Jeannetta Simpson-Robinson, and the great-granddaughter of the late Claretta “Mother Freedom” Simpson; historical leaders and activists in the Milwaukee community. “My niece, Lil’ Jeannetta, was a wonderful child who was all about peace and love, and showed her love through giving,” said Walton. “I’m elated to see the legacy and spirit of my mother and grandmother’s service to others in the community live on through this program in honor of her.”

Since 2021, thanks to generous benefactors including Bader Philanthropies, SOULSTIR, and several others, along with administrative support from United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County, more than 1,000 children at four Milwaukee elementary schools have received Christmas gifts and a free copy of Little Netta’s Gift, including Carver Academy, formerly known as Palmer Elementary, the elementary school Lil’ Jeannetta attended, along with three other Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership members, Auer Avenue, Browning Elementary, and Zablocki Elementary. Bader Philanthropies, SOULSTIR, and many others are proud sponsors again this year, and we are grateful for such tremendous support in the community.
